In a recent article published by Financial Times, Jancis Robinson, Master of Wine, Journalist and Editor, talks about the revolution that Social Media and Internet represent in the world of wine. We found really interesting the raising of the following question: “There are huge benefits to the communication revolution, but how is it affecting the world of wine?”
We have been told that this sector is extremely traditional and finds it difficult to innovate and take participation in Social Media. Our experience is exactly the opposite. Wine Spiral Project is a platform about sharing knowledge and innovation between wine suppliers and wineries worldwide – all this taking place on-line! – and just want to say that, in our humble trip on the tweetsphere, we have found plenty of wine professionals (wineries, wine suppliers, wine bloggers…) willing to collaborate with us.
A special mention and a thousand thanks to our favorite Wine Bloggers @WinesandtheCity (Meritxell Falgueras) @TerroiristBlog (David White) and @1WineDude (Joe Roberts), who answered our Wine Innovation Questionnaire when we were a 3-days-baby on the net!
So we go a little further and ask ourselves, Is Social Media helping or harming the world of wine in communicating their products to their customers? For us, the answer is clear: Social (and Professional) Networks are a unique via of obtaining direct feedback from your clients and also keep a closer and friendlier relationship with them. Wineries and Wine Suppliers need innovation to grow and differentiate from competitors.
It is not that they must have an on-line presence on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin or Google +, but if they analyze the market needs, they may realize that many of their potential followers are currently using their Social Media (SM) profiles at all times! Why don’t give it a try?
Because SOCIAL MEDIA IS ABOUT PEOPLE
And now that we are in the wine world 2.0 we will continue thinking big, improving and having the best professionals in our network to share collaboratively, learn and grow.
A massive THANK YOU to all the professionals collaborating and participating with us in Wine Spiral Project!
